Description :
  • Technical Functions
  • Performs skilled electrical and electronic installation, repair, service and maintenance work on a variety of electrical installations, systems, pumps, meters, and other equipment in City facilities, which include working on and around high voltage, 480-voltage, and multi-phase motors; inspects and repairs motor control centers and circuits and variable frequency drive systems; installs, repairs, and replaces outlets, lighting fixtures, switches, ballasts, conduit runs and supports, and distribution panels; inspects, maintains, and repairs electrical switch gear, transformers, underground transmission power conductors, relays, motors, pumps, generators, and a variety of other types of electro-mechanical equipment for proper operation; repairs, replaces, disassembles, assembles, installs, and tests electrical apparatus equipment, telemetry and wiring for power, lighting, and instrumentation as needed; works under the applicable provision of the electrical code, approved plans, and specifications; performs troubleshooting, diagnostic, and programming work; reads and interprets electrical and mechanical drawings and specifications; and operates diagnostic instruments such as a voltmeter, megger, ammeter, ohmmeter, transistor checker, loop meter, and other electrical test equipment.
  • Administrative Functions
  • Estimates labor, material needs, and related costs associated with repair, installation, or modification work; makes recommendations to improve efficiency and cost effectiveness; ensures that work orders are completed in a timely manner with attention to priority work; ensures contract compliance by coordinating and monitoring work of contractors; discusses a prospective job with contractors; makes recommendations regarding the most effective and efficient way to complete a job; provides recommendations in support of the Water Resources Division Capital Improvement Plan; prepares various reports on operations and activities; assists in the preparation of the section's budget; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations and makes recommendations regarding the purchase of supplies and equipment; practices safe work methods and ensures the use of safety equipment and precautions related to the work being performed; establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, city management and staff, and the public; and may provide direction to temporary employees.
Requirements :
  • Experience: Five (5) years of journey level experience in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical and electronic systems equivalent to those used in the City of Livermore.
  • Education : Equivalent to graduation from high school, supplemented by specialized training or college coursework related to the assigned section.
  • Training : Any recent training such as academic courses and certification programs that are relevant to this job classification.
  • License : Possession of a valid California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City. Requires the possession of a valid California Class A license with the appropriate endorsements prior to the completion of the probationary period.
